7 Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Titles We’re Dreaming Of

With the Switch 2 on the horizon, Nintendo fans everywhere are buzzing with excitement about what launch titles might accompany this next-generation console. During last week's episode of Good Playing With You, we speculated about the games that could make the Switch 2 an undeniable day-one purchase. Here are the seven titles that made our dream list:

1. The Legend of Zelda

A new Zelda game is an obvious choice for any Nintendo console launch, and it’s a guaranteed way to generate hype. Whether it’s a continuation of the open-world brilliance of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom or something entirely new, this beloved franchise is practically synonymous with Nintendo excellence. Few games showcase Nintendo’s innovation like Zelda, and we can only imagine what a next-gen Switch could do with it (never mind the fact that Echoes of Wisdom felt slightly lackluster - you can check out our review here).

2. Eternal Darkness

A sequel or next-gen reboot to Eternal Darkness could be the perfect way to tap into nostalgia while offering something bold and unique. The original’s sanity effects are legendary, and with modern technology, they could be more mind-bending than ever. A game that toys with the player’s perception, twists expectations, and leans into a darker, mature tone could help Nintendo broaden its audience for the Switch 2. And with Nintendo's increasing innovation on hardware, those sanity effects could really make us go crazy!

3. Star Fox

It’s time for Star Fox to return in style. Imagine a new Star Fox game that fully embraces the scope and grandeur of modern space epics, with massive battles, exploration, and seamless transitions between air combat and ground missions. With the Switch 2's rumored hardware upgrades, this could be the definitive Star Fox experience, bringing both nostalgia and innovation to longtime fans. Plus, who wouldn't want to do a barrel roll with a joy-con!

4. Pilotwings

Another classic franchise that could thrive on the Switch 2 is Pilotwings. A new entry in this relaxing and fun flight sim series could showcase the console’s graphical power and motion controls. With jetpacks, hang gliders, and even some creative twists like drone racing or futuristic aircraft, Pilotwings could deliver both nostalgia and fresh gameplay for fans old and new. We know that Microsoft Flight Simulator is scheduled to release with the new console, but nothing hits the target like the original.

5. Animal Crossing

It’s impossible to overstate the cultural impact of Animal Crossing: New Horizons during the Covid pandemic five years ago. A new Animal Crossing title timed with the launch of the Switch 2 would capitalize on the massive audience that fell in love with the franchise during the pandemic. With improved graphics, expanded customization options, and perhaps even new online features, this could be another landmark title for Nintendo. Let's just not time it with Bird Flu this time, please.

6. Castlevania

Last, but certainly not least, though it’s not a Nintendo-owned franchise, Castlevania has deep roots in Nintendo history, dating back to the NES. A brand-new Castlevania title could revive the series with modern sensibilities while paying homage to its retro roots. Gothic castles, challenging gameplay, and an epic soundtrack would make it a perfect fit for the Switch 2. Fans of the franchise have been yearning for a proper return, and what better place for it than Nintendo’s next big console?

7. A New Nintendo IP

While revisiting classic franchises is exciting, the Switch 2 also needs a bold new IP. Imagine Nintendo tackling something more mature and cinematic, like an Uncharted-style adventure. With the Switch 2’s enhanced hardware, this could be a visually stunning action-adventure game that balances the charm of Nintendo with the kind of depth and storytelling that appeals to adult gamers. A new IP like this could attract a broader audience while proving Nintendo’s versatility. People may go to a concert to hear the hits, but you can't keep touring without new material!

The Switch 2 has the potential to be a groundbreaking console, but a strong lineup of launch titles will be key to its success. Whether it’s revisiting beloved classics like Zelda and Animal Crossing, reviving fan favorites like Eternal Darkness and Star Fox, or introducing bold new ideas, Nintendo has an incredible opportunity to wow fans once again.
