6 Switch 2 Games We Would Buy Day One
What Games Would Get Us To Buy The New Console?
With the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, we’re already dreaming of what titles could push us to preorder the next-gen console. On this week’s episode of Good Playing With You, we each picked two games that would guarantee we hand over our money on Day One. These are the titles that would make the Switch 2 a must-have right out of the gate.
Patapon Revival (PSP Port)
Okay, it’s not technically a Nintendo franchise, but Patapon will finally get a home on the Switch (according to the Nintendo Switch Direct at the end of March 2025). This rhythmic strategy game from the PSP era is one of the most unique and joyful experiences in gaming. If Nintendo started porting over PSP games like Patapon, it would be a game-changer for Matt Lord). The beat-driven gameplay mixed with real-time battles is a perfect fit for Switch-style play and would absolutely be a Day One purchase.
Pikmin
Bright, colorful, relaxing, and strategic; Pikmin is pure Nintendo magic. A new Pikmin game launching with the Switch 2 would be an instant buy for me. The charm of directing your little plant-army across imaginative landscapes brings a kind of joyful, low-stress strategy that’s hard to find elsewhere. Plus, it’s one of the few games that’s both adorable and surprisingly deep.
Nintendo Switch Sports / Ring Fit Sequel
If Nintendo brings back its motion-controlled magic, whether in a sequel to Switch Sports, Ring Fit Adventure, or even a spiritual successor to Boom Blox, Dan Whitehill is in. These types of games are not only great for parties, they actually get you moving. A well-designed fitness or sports party game at launch would show off the Switch 2’s new hardware in a big way while delivering classic Nintendo fun.
EarthBound Revival or Sequel
Justice for EarthBound! If Nintendo brings back EarthBound (or better yet, gives us an actual EarthBound 2 - officially localized and everything), that’s an easy preorder. Quirky, emotional, and timeless, this cult-favorite RPG has long deserved a proper modern follow-up. If this was a Switch 2 launch title? Say no more. Nintendo, please.
Pilotwings
This one's a bit of a dark horse, but Pilotwings deserves a comeback. Whether it’s skydiving onto a target, flying with a jetpack, or gliding through rings, the laid-back flight sim was always one of Nintendo’s more underrated gems. A modern Pilotwings powered by Switch 2’s hardware - especially with Flight Simulator-level visuals - would be the kind of relaxing, whimsical launch title we’d all line up for.
Super Mario Maker 3
Bring on the chaos. Mario Maker 2 was one of the best and most underrated titles on the original Switch, offering endless platforming creativity and community-driven fun. If Super Mario Maker 3 launches with the Switch 2, especially if it includes mouse support and even more crossover content, it would easily be a Day One game for many of us. Endless content + new hardware = an easy win.
